Dr. M. Vijayakumar, M. Pharm., Ph.D

Assistant General Manager – R&D (Head) | Expert in FMCG, Herbal Innovation & Phytocosmetics

Dr. M. Vijayakumar is a seasoned R&D leader with over 23 years of experience in herbal product innovation, specializing in proprietary Ayurvedic formulations, phytocosmetics (including skin care, hair care, and baby care), and herbal supplements. As the current Head of R&D – Herbal Division, he brings together strategic vision and scientific rigor to develop high-efficacy, nature-driven wellness and personal care solutions.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Vijayakumar held senior scientific roles in reputed herbal and wellness organizations, where he led the development and commercialization of a wide range of herbal formulations across pharmaceuticals, personal care, and nutraceutical categories. His work has consistently focused on translating traditional wisdom into clinically supported, consumer-ready products.

He also served as a Scientist at the CSIR–National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Government of India, where he led major research projects, including collaborative initiatives with academic institutions. His work encompassed pharmacological and toxicological evaluations and the establishment of pilot-scale production systems for the development and translation of herbal innovations.

Dr. Vijayakumar is highly regarded for his in-depth knowledge of herbal extraction techniques, phytoactive standardization, and rapid product development strategies. He also has expertise in regulatory affairs for cosmetics and food supplements, both in domestic and international markets, ensuring that products meet global safety, efficacy, and compliance standards.

In addition to his industry leadership, Dr. Vijayakumar has made significant contributions to academia. He has supervised six Ph.D. scholars in the areas of natural product research and pharmaceutical sciences, and has authored over 60 research papers published in peer-reviewed international and national journals. He has also delivered invited lectures and presented research findings at numerous international conferences and scientific seminars, sharing expertise on herbal innovation, product safety, efficacy, and sustainable development. Additionally, he contributed as a visiting faculty member at NIPER, guiding and mentoring future scientists in pharmaceutical sciences.
